‘How will we live together?’ is the title of the 2021 Biennale and of a special series of talks and tours organized by the Instituto Italiano di Cultura in Amsterdam. An Italian and a Dutch architect always give a lecture in connection with the Biennale, and on Friday 14 October Rob Torsing, architect and partner at architectural studio ZJA, and Luigi Panetta, architect and owner of Spazio architects and of Guiding Architects Rome, round off this four-part series.

The quality of life in cities is high on the agenda all over the world, and several themes are central. Under the heading ‘Link it’, mobility comes under the spotlight on 14 October, and the speakers will present examples from Rome and Amsterdam. In a lecture entitled ‘Down Below’, Rob Torsing dives into underground Amsterdam and shows a number of spectacular underground solutions to mobility challenges in the city.

More space for people aboveground and less obstruction by cars. In 2008, along with construction firm Strukton, ZJA developed a spectacular plan for the future of the city of Amsterdam called AMFORA. It places all the necessary facilities underneath Amsterdam’s extensive waterways in manner that is ingenious and safe, and results in a highly liveable environment.
