AZ has commissioned BAM Bouw en Techniek to build a new roof for the AFAS stadium in Alkmaar. ZJA is responsible for the design of this new structure.
The roof now protrudes four meters further towards the field, providing supporters greater comfort in rainy weather. And the current light poles are being replaced by sustainable LED lighting at the edge of the canopy.

Together with AZ, Royal HaskoningDHV and Stadium Consultancy, a beautiful design was created in a short period of time. Football matches can be enjoyed again in a safe, comfortable and modern stadium. We wish AZ and BAM good luck with the construction work."
Construction will begin shortly and will continue during the first half of the season. Meanwhile temporary facilities will be installed in the stadium to ensure that matches can continue to take place in parallel.
