ZJA presents concept design large span lightrail bridges South Korea

24.12.2019

On December 17th ZJA presented its architectural concept design for a system of large span elevated bridges for lightrail systems in major cities of South Korea to the Korean Railroad Research Institute (KRRI ) and GS E&C. This has been the first stage in the research on whether elevated above ground solutions can be developed that have less impact on the spatial quality in a densely populated city or which can even make a positive contribution in an economically viable, elegant, sustainable and innovative way.

This study is conducted in close collaboration with Woosung D&C, Dong-A Engineering and C & SC CO. The team was given the task to minimize the number of intermediate supports of the overpasses and to make the construction as slender as possible. Furthermore, it is also important to keep construction costs low, so that transport costs will weigh less on the government budget.
